Two teens in serious condition after shooting on Detroit's west side

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Two teens are recovering following an early morning shooting in Detroit as police sift through conflicting stories.

Initially police were told the teens were on their way from a gas station picking up snacks when someone tried to rob them at Tireman and Beechwood on the west side.

Police later found out that the injured teens weren’t even supposed to be out and that the shooting occurred closer to Beechwood and Pacific.

The teens had been riding around since around midnight - allegedly with a 13-year-old friend who was driving a stolen van.

Around 5:00 am  Monday morning, the youngsters say they were confronted by a guy who, they say, claimed someone looked at him wrong and suddenly began shooting.

“Seven to eight shots were fired. Two of the juveniles seated in the van were struck. One in the shoulder and a 14-year-old in the arm,” said Detroit police captain Rodney Cox

The fourteen-year-old is a girl. She and the other victim, a 17-year-old boy, are both are expected to be okay.

In the meantime, if you have any information that will help police close this case they'd love to hear from you.
