Vacant Detroit public library being used for illegal dumping

(WXYZ) - At the corner of Gratiot and Pulford, sits a vacant Detroit Public Library.  Today, it's almost unrecognizable.

"This library should be boarded up.  It's a hazardous place to be." said Preacher with the community group Bleach Detroit.

Preacher was on a recent patrol when he came across the vacant library and the burned out house next door.  With nothing left to scrap, the empty structures have become a dumping ground.

"There are tires being dumped, chemicals and there are dangerous structures everywhere," said Preacher.

We asked the nearby business if they knew anything about the illegal dumping, but said no.

"I would like to see it cleaned up and this house knocked down and the library boarded up." said Preacher. "It's just a dangerous environment to be in.
