Vigil to be held Thursday night for Clinton Township driver brutally beaten by mob, Steve Utash

DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) - A vigil will be held at 7:00 tonight to support Steve Utash and his family.

It's being put together by a coalition of religious leaders, at the Little Rock Baptist Church.

The attack on him last week has caused a lot of racially charged feelings in Detroit, as well as across the country.

Utash was beaten by an angry mob after he stopped to help the child he accidentally hit with his truck.

The boy escaped with minor injuries, but the 54-year-old Clinton Township man has been in critical condition ever since.

Yesterday, police arrested a fifth person connected to the attack.

Three others have been charged with intent to murder, while a 16-year-old boy is awaiting charges.

Utash's family had hoped to raise $50,000 to cover medical costs, but they've now received more than $150,000.

Mayor Duggan and Utash's family are also expected to attend tonight's vigil at 7:00.
