(WXYZ) - The odds have improved greatly that more casinos will be coming to Michigan, following a State Supreme Court ruling.
Here is what the case is about. In June a group turned in a petition to ask voters whether they would like to allow a fourth casino in Detroit and seven more across the state. Right now Michigan law allows only the three Detroit casinos and casinos on reservations.
The Michigan Appeals Court said the petition was no good because it didn't lay out for voters how the state's existing law would change. The Supreme Court however said that the petition did not have to do that.
As a result it is possible the referendum will now be allowed to go before voters in November.
If approved, the referendum would allow casinos in cities such as Detroit, Pontiac, Romulus, and Clinton Township.
The Board of State Canvasses will pick up the issue on Monday.
