Wayne County Prosecutor announces murder, manslaughter & firearms charges in Renisha McBride death

(WXYZ) - Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced charges against 54-year-old Theodore Wafer in connection to the shooting death of Renisha McBride.

Wafer is charged with 3 counts including second-degree murder, manslaughter and felony firearm possession.

Renisha McBride, 19, was shot in the face on the porch of a Dearborn Heights home earlier this month by the homeowner.

Our police sources are telling us that police concluded an additional investigation by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy that Worthy requested from them.

She had invited police to her offices Friday morning before she makes an announcement at 11 a.m.

The controversial case took a twist  when the toxicology report on McBride came out Thursday.

A report released Thursday by the Wayne County Medical Examiner's office shows that McBride had a blood alcohol level of .218 %.  That is almost three times the legal limit.

"She's less of a threat because she's so drunk," said Thurswell.

The 54-year-old homeowner told police when he shot McBride he thought she was trying to break into his house.  Her family believes she was trying to get help after crashing her car.
