DETROIT (WXYZ) - The young woman who died after taking a bullet from an off-duty officer's gun at a party was laid to rest Saturday in an emotional service.
24-year-old Adaisha Miller was about to turn 25 and was celebrating her birthday at a fish fry hosted by a DPD officer last weekend when she was killed in the freak accident.
According to police investigators Adaisha was dancing with the officer, Isaac Parrish, when she grabbed him from behind and somehow triggered his semiautomatic pistol that was concealed and holstered.
At Saturday's funeral family members and friends of Adaisha continued to question the validity of that explanation. The 24-year-old's mother, Yolanda McNair, says she does not have closure.
"The questions are still there. The questions are still there," McNair told Action News.
A friend of Adaisha's father echoed those sentiments.
"I just hope that the truth comes out. Her father is like my uncle and I just want the truth to come out," said Kevin Ragland.
DPD's internal affairs is still investigating the incident. The officer involved has been placed on administrative duty.
