Woman seeks help with sewage nightmare in home

(WXYZ) - Every time Saturday Thomspon wants to shower, she has to use the sink but first, she has to run to the basement to vacuum up the sewage.

Thompson's plumbing problem has caused dirty water to seep into her home since November 2012. She and her mom have to use a portable toilet to go to the bathroom because their toilet won't flush.

The problem is under the ground of her property and she cannot afford to fix it.

A few months ago, she had to quit her job to provide 24 hour care for her mother who has serious health issues. The two are on a fixed income and it will take close to $2000 to fix their plumbing problems.

Thompson has been hoping to get relief funds through the Department of Human Services but she will need three estimates to apply for that help.

There has been one major obstacle; Thomspon could not find any plumbing companies willing to give her estimates. They told her it typically takes D.H.S. months to refund them.

That's when she called 7 Action News and we found TNT Plumbing in Detroit.  The owner, Tyrone Sanford, gave her an estimate.

Early afternoon Thursday, another company volunteered its services but one more plumbing business is still needed.

7 Action News had been having trouble getting any answers from the Department of Human Services all day, Thursday.

Early this evening a spokesperson from D.H.S. called 7 Action News to say they have been in direct contact with Thompson hoping to expedite her problem.
