GREEN OAK TWP., Mich. (WXYZ) - Several police and fire agencies and two county dive teams are searching on Whitmore Lake for a missing 46-year-old man believed to have fallen off his boat and into the water.
A windy day and choppy waters were the conditions out on Whitmore Lake Sunday when Tom Pulling, a man who lives by the lake, spotted a small fishing boat spinning out of control around 2:30 p.m.
"I scanned across the lake with my binoculars and I saw the boat spinning. And I saw what looked like a head in the water," said Pulling.
Pulling dropped everything and ran to his boat to try and save the person he saw bobbing in the water.
"I ran down the dock and uncovered the boat, roared across there and by the time I got there the boat was just spinning. And there was nothing," said Pulling. When he got to the boat Pulling said he did not see anyone in the water anymore. Another boat showed up and Pulling called 9-1-1.
"We couldn't get near it and then all of a sudden it must've run out of gas and stopped. And then the other boat secured it. And they tied it to a pontoon boat. And I believe it's over here now at the marina," said Pulling. "It looked to me like the guy had opened the engine up because the engine was running full throttle and slipped," said Pulling.
Ever since then several fire departments and two dive teams have been searching the water for a person pulling believes somehow slipped and fell overboard. Green Oak Township Deputy Chief Kevin Gentry tells 7 Action News that the man's family said he went out fishing and when he did not come back home when he was supposed to, the family reported him missing.
