A high school student wants answers after his school didn't pause for a moment of silence on 9/11.

On Monday, he went before the Hartland Consolidated School Board to voice his concerns.

September 11, 2001 is a day many of us will never forget.

"This year there was no moment of silence in the morning," said Emilio Horvath, a junior at Hartland High School.

"It's just something that we need to as a nation bond together and remember together," said Horvath.

However on September 11 this year,  Emilio's high school didn't pause for a moment of silence. It triggered something inside him.  He even wrote an email to the school principal, with his displeasure

"I got called down to the office by my principal and we talked and she told me why we didn't, she said it's just something that should be remembered on a personal level or in history classes," sai Horvath.

Emilio was still upset that he started a petition, with a vast majority of students signing it.

"They were very upset there was no moment of silence or any recognition of it." said Horvath

Hartland school administrators say the school honors our country and veterans in many ways.

The Assistant Principal at Hartland High School, Jason Reck, spoke at the school board meeting.

"There is absolutely no way the high school administration or Hartland Consolidated Schools would disrespect the memory of September 11th," said Reck.

Emilio says after nothing was done on September 11th this year, he just couldn't stay silent.

"It's good to stand up for something that actually matters," said Horvath.

Emilio got over 200 signatures on the petition.

During the meeting the superintendent told the students, from here on out, there will always be a moment of silence on September 11th, at Hartland High School.
