WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) - Warren Mayor Jim Fouts tells 7 Action News that a 100-year-old woman died Monday night when she drowned in a flooded basement.
The elderly woman was found Tuesday morning by her daughter, the mayor said.
The city of Warren was hit particularly hard by rains and flooding Monday evening. Even the police department dealt with a five-foot flood.
Mayor Fouts confirmed that the 100-year-old woman was one of two people to die in Warren due to the weather.
A 30-year-old Sterling Heights woman suffered a medical emergency, possibly a seizure, while she was driving Monday night in Warren, along Van Dyke, near 13 Mile Road. She was transported to St. John Macomb Hospital where she passed away.
The mayor says he has asked FEMA for funds to assist flooded homeowners in Warren as they recover.
