St. Clair Shores, Mich. (WXYZ) - The number of students infected with MRSA in Metro Detroit is unfortunately on the rise.
The latest case involves a student in St. Clair Shores, at Lakeview High SChool.
The school's principal sent out a letter to parents, letting them know the school is stepping up efforts to clean and disinfect the school.
This week, crews will use hospital grade disinfectant to wipe down high-traffic areas like rest rooms, door handles, and light switches.
MRSA can look like an average skin infection; red, swollen pimples and boils are common.
This is at least the third confirmed case of MRSA in the area since late August.
Health officials say the best defense against MRSA is to have your child simply wash their hands.
