Family says their dog was taken and then an ad was placed on Craigslist offering to re-home him

NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. (WXYZ) - A family is desperately searching for the whereabouts of their 4-year-old Doberman Pincher named Thor. The dog went missing Monday morning from his home in New Baltimore.

“We’re just devastated,” said Thor's owner Francesca Rodriguez.  “The fence was separated. Somebody pried it apart and my Doberman is not that strong.”

Then, according to Francesca, an ad mysterious popped up on Craigslist with a picture of a red Doberman.

The poster claimed the dog needed to be re-homed and that there was a re-homing fee.

“The picture looked just like my dog, Thor, and when I went back on to this posting it was deleted,”  said Francesca.

What makes his disappearance even more shady is that when Francesca went to put up her own add on Craigslist, it was immediately flagged.

As the search continues, Francesca and her husband Carlos have already posted more than 150 flyers.

“I think it’s cold-hearted. It’s heartless and if you take somebody’s animal away from them - that’s their family,” said Francesca.  “He’s our baby and we love him and miss him.”

As the days go by, Thor’s mom worries for her dog’s safety.

“He has never growled in his life and he is so playful and, you can tell, he’s so grateful because we rescued him,” said Francesca.

She has a message for whomever stole him from her.

“You need help and there is a special place down below waiting for you,” said Francesca.

The family says they will not stop searching for Thor. They are offering a reward of more than $1,000 for information that leads to finding him safely.
