(WXYZ) - This Friday a deadline looms that will affect millions of Americans and billions of dollars if a bipartisan agreement isn't reached.
Democratic and Republican governors met with President Obama earlier Monday to try to avoid automatic spending cuts but there isn't much hope Congress can reach a deal on the 85 billions dollars in cuts.
The president says companies are preparing layoff notices and families are preparing to cut back on expenses.
Michigan could take a $110 million hit.
In Macomb County alone, a report from the White House says 10,000 Department of Defense employees would be furloughed at the cost of around $69 million.
Base operation funding would be cut by about $14 million in Michigan. That would include Selfridge Air National Gurad Base in Harrison Township and the Detroit Arsenal in Warren.
Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel joined the 7 Action News Team to talk about the pending cuts. His interview can be seen in the player above.
