Hundreds remember April Millsap as young woman of faith as police investigate her murder

ARMADA - The chorus of voices lifting up song and prayer on the front lawn of St. Mary Mystical Rose Church in Armada was proof Saturday night that a beloved teenager left a lasting impression in the small, tight-knit community.

"April was the kindest girl that anyone could meet,” Corinne Wegner said. “She was friends with everyone and she had a wonderful and beautiful personality.”

More than 200 people gathered to remember 14-year-old April Millsap, whose was body discovered by joggers Thursday night near the Macomb Orchard Trail.

The shock of the news is still fresh several days later.

April’s youth minister, Joe Sturza, said, “To be here and be strong for the kids of this parish, it's been a difficult day for all of us.”

April's school friends shared some of their best memories during a prayer vigil.

“Even on her bad days she would try to make everyone around here feel better,” Katie Grabowski said.

Family members hope and pray for clues of who killed April. April's grandfather, who lives in Florida, tells 7 Action News he doesn't think April was a random target.

“We certainly kind of feel like that it's somebody that she knew,” Dennis Levans said.

Police are still searching for two men spotted in a grey box van that was seen circling the area where April's body was found. They are also searching for a motorcycle that was also seen in the area.

Those who loved April best appeal to a higher power to help them come to terms with a tragedy none of them can comprehend.

“She was just such a sweetheart, and we loved having her down here all the time,” Levans said.

The Michigan State Police is assisting Armada police in their continued investigation and search for suspects.

Crime Stoppers is offering a rewards of $2,500 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
