JUSTICE FOR BASIL: 4-day fundraiser in honor of murdered Clinton Twp. party store owner

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 4-day fundraising event will be held for the family of Basim "Basil" Sulaka - the beloved 51-year-old party store owner who was killed during a robbery.

Suspects in the case are still on the loose.

A Justice for Basil Facebook page has been set up in Basil's honor. The fundraising event will take place at the Detroit Pub in Clinton Township Thursday, April 10 through Sunday, April 13.

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the needs of Basil's family.

An investigation into Basil's death is still under way.

Police say the crime happened around 11 p.m. Friday, March 28 at the Moon Lite party store located on Harper, just north of 14 mile.

Investigators say three masked men entered the business then subsequently shot and killed "Basil" during the robbery.

"Basil" had owned the store for 18 years and was a cancer survivor. The store is back open and is being run by friends and even competitors.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Clinton Township Police.
