Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger who was just fined for an ethics violationon Wednesday was involved in a car accident later that evening in a county vehicle, police sources have confirmed to 7 Action News.

Spranger told police her foot accidentally slipped off of the brake and onto the gas pedal, causing her to rear-end the car in front of her.

She was ticketed for failure to stop and no proof of insurance.

The county vehicle was severely damaged in the accident, according to sources. No injures were reported.

7 Action News was unable to reach the clerk for comment on this incident.

Spranger was slapped with violating the ethics ordinance earlier Wednesday for allowing improper use of county computers and she was fined $100.

“It’s what it is. And I just respect the decision,” she told 7 Action News afterwards.

This comes on the heels of other troubles for the embattled clerk, who took office just months ago. She is threatening to sue the county over work protocol disputes and is facing a whistleblower lawsuit brought on by two former aids who claim an unfair firing and hostile work environment.

When asked if her office was a hostile work environment, Spranger replied, “In my opinion, no. This is a few disagreements.”

She says people in her office need to communicate more and work things out.
