CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - An intense manhunt is underway throughout metro Detroit after an attempted robbery of an armored car yesterday in Clinton Township.
One of the robbers was killed; another got away and at least one other person may be involved - armed and extremely dangerous.
Police in Clinton Township had a briefing on the attempted robbery first thing this morning. The feds and area departments are assisting.
The robbery happened at the Bank of America on Gratiot yesterday.
More than 30 shots were fired between one would-be robber and a guard.
Sources tell me the robber had on assault body armor and was shot several times. He also had on a hoodie and gloves.
An autopsy will determine what killed him. He had no id. He is a young black male, about 20-years-old. His finger prints will be used to try to id him.
A second robber got away in a van. He was also shot; they found blood in the van on the seat and steering wheel.
He ditched the van a short distance away and may have been picked up by a 3rd person. The van was stolen from Southfield on august 18th. So this case may have ties throughout metro Detroit, not just the east side.
Surveillance video is being reviewed. Anyone with information is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
