New Baltimore Police Officer killed in traffic accident

NEW BALTIMORE, Mich. (WXYZ) - The New Baltimore Police Department is confirming that one of their officers was killed in a traffic accident Sunday night.

Officer Patrick Wisniewski Sr., 33, was killed in an accident on Jefferson Ave. near 21 Mile Rd. in Chesterfield Township at around 9:30 pm. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

The initial investigation reveals that a 64-year-old man from Chesterfield was making a left-hand turn off of Jefferson onto 21 Mile Road when he reportedly struck the officer. He was driving on a suspended license.

The man was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and could face criminal charges.

Officer Wisniewski was a Police Reserve Officer who served with the New Baltimore Police Department for the last two years.

He also served 15 years with the United States Air Force Active Guard Reserve 127th Security Forces Squadron at Selfridge ANG Base, where he had obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Wisniewski is survived by a wife and five children. Funeral arrangements are pending, but it has been announced that Gendernalik Funeral Home will be holding a visitation, details of which are still be worked out.
