2-year-old boy left in hot car for hours, found dead in Shelby Township

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich., (WXYZ) - The Shelby Township Police Department has released updated information in connection to the death of a 2-year-old boy.
Police say the toddler, James Nelson, was found dead in his car seat in a van Tuesday evening. Police say neither his mother, 21-year-old Audrionna Rhoades, nor her roommate remember putting him in the van.
An autopsy has determined that the child died of hyperthermia. Officials believe he was in the van for 10 to 11 hours.
The child was found unresponsive in a vehicle parked on the 2000 block of Marmoor in Dequindre Estates Trailer Park off of Dequindre around 6:00 p.m.
Officers say the child had been dead for several hours.
EMS and police transported the boy to Troy Beaumont hospital where the child he pronounced dead. At the time he was examined his temperature was 108 degrees.
Police are still investigating.
