CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Chesterfield Township police say they have caught a man accused to tying up and trying to kidnapped his ex-girlfriend.
Officers say 23-year-old Jonathan Elbers was taken into custody this afternoon. Police say he was hiding in a deer blind in a heavily wooded area and taken into custody without incident.
Elbers is accused of attacking his ex-girlfriend on Friday . She was able to escape when her sister and police officers arrived at her Chesterfield Township home to check on her.
Police say they heard the woman screaming "help me" from the basement. Officers say that was enough to distract Elbers so the victim could make her escape. She later told police that he had tried to force her into a Christmas Tree bag.
He also reportedly threatened to put her in his truck and shoot her in the head. The woman told officers he said he would then shoot himself.
Elbers was able to escape from the home before officers could arrest him. His truck was found parked nearby.
Elbers is facing a wide range of charges including Assault with Intent to Murder, Home Invasion, Unlawful Imprisonment and Assault Causing Injury. He faces life in prison if convicted on all charges.
