Amazon is going to be adding another fulfillment center in Shelby Township on 23 Mile Road near Mound, bringing in 1,000 jobs.

This announcement comes as Dan Gilbert leads a Super Bowl-like bid committee to bring Amazon's second headquarters to Detroit.

The warehouse will be a million square feet.

"That's a big deal," Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said. "That's a huge opportunity for all of us."

He said the company approached them in December to discuss potential sites and picked the old Visteon plant based on transportation logistics, as well as other factors.

Shelby Township resident Dianne Jernigan said she is glad it's coming to Shelby Township.

"I'm just glad for the community and overall for jobs, because we need them," she said.

Plans for Amazon fulfillment centers have been popping up throughout Michigan, including Livonia.

Governor Rick Snyder tweeted "Amazon's continued investment in MI proves the value of our diverse, hardworking talent pool and reformed business climate #ComebackState."

The first step is to make sure the area is environmentally safe - which will be a $10 million cleanup.

More fulfillment centers could mean quicker shipments for Amazon customers.

They hope to have a warehouse up and running by next year's holiday season.
