Teachers are stocking up on back-to-school materials including tools to crack down on bullying

Anti-bullying tools popping up in more classrooms

WARREN, Mich. (WXYZ) - From name-calling to cyberbullying, getting kids to behave is a tall order.  But now more and more teachers are snatching up tools to help keep bullying out of the classroom.

Bullying has been a growing problem over the years – especially with the advent of the internet, Facebook, Twitter, and texting.

Many educators are taking a proactive approach. More and more teachers are snatching up anti-bullying items and conflict resolution materials.

7 Action News visited Learning Gizmos recently. It's a teacher supply store in Warren.

Owner Nancy Korte told us the anti-bullying supplies are flying off the shelves. We're talking about everything from bulletin boards and activity books to games and poster sets.

"The posters are talking more about how to be a good friend, to be a good listener, don't leave anybody out, trying to get them to understand that we all have feelings and then addressing the whole issue about what bullying actually is," said Korte.

She said some teachers are even using workbooks to supplement their lesson plans.

"Activity books that address bullying through worksheets. There are even plays where students can act out scenarios so they know how to better handle conflict and bullying situations," Korte explained as she flipped through one workbook.

She said one high school principal recently came in and bought four posters sets. The administrator wants to post them throughout the entire school.
