STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) - School Bells rang this morning at three elementary schools in the Warren Consolidated School District.
Fillmore, Holden and Siersma Elementary Schools are now on a year round schedule.
"There is 40 years of research showing that this schedule helps students learn," said Holden Elementary School principal Cheryl Priemer.
Students attending these schools have the same number of school days as traditional schools. They enjoy a 6 week summer, instead of a 12 week summer break. They then have 2 week breaks spread out through the year.
Warren Consolidated Schools is the only district in Macomb County offering the year-round schedule.
7 Action News spoke to one student who says she is happy to be back at school earlier than in the past. She says she knows she forgets things she learned over the summer, and this will help her succeed academically.
"I am going to have more knowledge and read more books. I am going to go to 5th grade, then 6th grade, and be successful," said Arianne Cabeje, a 4th Grader at Holden Elementary.
