Crews battle large fire at apartment building in Monroe

MONROE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Fire crews are battling a five alarm fire at an apartment complex in Monroe.

Officials say the fire is under control, but is still burning.

The fire started in a third floor unit before moving into the attic. It has now spread throughout the three story building. 

The fire started around 9:00 a.m. The extent of the damage isn't known.

Crews from 10 agencies, including Monroe, Frenchtown Township and Newport are all on the scene.

Officials say everyone was able to make it out safe. Four people were trapped in their apartment, however crews were able to get them out using a ladder truck.

No injuries have been reported and fire officials say everyone is safe.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
