Two vigils planned for EMU student found dead in her apartment

MONROE, Mich (WXYZ) - Two vigils are planned for the Eastern Michigan University student found dead in her apartment Tuesday night.

One will be held in Munson Park in Monroe Friday night, the other in Ypsilanti, where Julia Niswender went to school. That is also Friday night.

Her family sat down with 7 Action News to share their memories of Julia, expressing their sadness and disbelief that she's gone.

"I feel like part of my heart has been taken," said Julia's grandfather Jim Niswender.

"Julia was kind and caring and I would do anything for her," said her 10-year-old sister Madison through tears.

Julia, 23, was a twin and her twin sister Jennifer said: "I feel like half of my heart has been taken, I feel empty."

Ypsilanti police are saying there were no signs of trauma to Julia's body which was found in her locked bedroom, but they say there were signs of foul play.

"I am angry that someone would take this loving child from us, the world is little less brighter without her," said her grandmother Rose.
