TOLEDO, Ohio (WXYZ) - The announcement of the end of a ban on water use in Toledo, Ohio and parts of southern Monroe County, Michigan came with a celebratory toast -- of water.
Mayor D. Michael Collins of Toledo thanked his city's residents and those of southeast Michigan who banded together to help one another during their weekend water ban.
"I'm pretty thirsty right now because it's been a long night," said Mayor Collins as he sipped from a glass of water in front of a gaggle of reporters Monday morning.
"Here's to you, Toledo," he said. "You did a great job."
The water supply was tainted by the toxin microcystin that had developed in high levels due to an algal bloom in Lake Erie.
