Berkley city council to discuss Vinsetta Garage's plan to build new parking lot

BERKLEY, Mich. (WXYZ) - The debate over Vinsetta Garage's proposed parking lot takes center stage at a city council meeting in Berkley tonight.

The owner of the popular restaurant says currently, there isn't adequate parking for all of his customers and he's proposing to build a lot nearby.

The owner has purchased four lots on Oxford. He plans to demolish the homes and build a lot that can accommodate around 50 cars.

Residents who oppose the plan worry about increased traffic in the area. They say litter and intoxicated people are already an issue and they fear the new parking lot would only add to those problems.

At a meeting last month, the city's planning commission decided not to vote on the proposal but did recommend the full city council reject the plan.

Berkley city council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
