Chase ends with deadly crash in Southfield

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (WXYZ) - The Oakland County Medical Examiner's office confirms one man is dead in Thursday night's chase crash in Southfield.

It happened just after eleven at Westland Drive and Evergreen.  That is just north of 8 Mile Road.

Sources tell 7 Action News an Oakland County Sheriff's deputy tried to stop a pick-up driver suspected of driving drunk on Telegraph near 14 Mile in Franklin. That driver took off, was continued in a minor accident, then raced on.   That pick-up then hit a tree in a yard in Southfield, went air-born, and then slammed into another tree.

Family members tell 7 Action News the driver is Orlindo Burr from Birmingham.  An aunt says when she heard his pick-up truck was seen at a crash reported on the news, she feared his truck had been stolen.  She never thought he would be involved in a high-speed chase.  She knows him as an upstanding man.

"He was a beautiful person," said Lorine Evans. "This is devastating for our family."

Investigators say he is 36 years old.
