OAK PARK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police are investigating a crash involving a wrong-way driver that shut down I-696 in Oak Park for more than an hour during the morning rush hour.
Michigan State Police received reports of the wrong-way driver at around 4:55 a.m. The driver made his way eastbound in the westbound lanes from I-275 until crashing into another vehicle at Coolidge shortly after 5:00 a.m.
Troopers closed the freeway from 5:15 a.m. until 6:28 a.m.
Both drivers have been taken to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
