Crimestoppers offers reward for arrest in Oakland County pellet-shooting spree

Pontiac (WXYZ) - It's frightening for drivers in Oakland County and very dangerous.

Someone is shooting out windows in vehicles and local law enforcement is now asking for the public's help in the case.

“Right now it doesn’t look like there’s been a handgun," said Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe. " I know a lot of people are drawing this is like Raulie Casteel, the I-96 corridor shooter. t’s a serious offense but we don’t think it’s that type of thing where he’s going out and targeting people.”

The documented incidents, 17 in all, have occurred at night or in the overnight hours. Windows are being shot out of moving vehicles by some type of pellet gun or high-powered BB gun.

“They’re basically centered around what we call the I-75/M-59 corridor," said McCabe. "We’ve had four incidents in the city of Pontiac along the M-59 corridor," McCabe said.

Ten of the shootings have been in Auburn Hills along the M-59 corridor. There have also been incidents as far north as Orion Township and Independence Township. Fortunately, no one has been seriously injured.

“Bad guys aren’t the smartest guys in the world," McCabe said. "Somebody’s told somebody, so we’re looking for that certain person to come forward and call us."

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Crime Stoppers welcomes anonymous tips at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
