69-year-old Maxine Hadley dead, son hospitalized after Royal Oak home explosion

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WXYZ) - Maxine Hadley, 69, is dead and her 50-year-old son is in the hospital following an overnight fire that resulted from an explosion at their Royal Oak home, according to police. 

Police on the scene tell 7 Action News Hadley died immediately. This investigation is being treated as a homicide.

Hadley's son suffered burns to his legs and is receiving care at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He is being monitored by police.

When officers arrived, the son was outside of the home with a garden hose attempting to put out the fire.

Over the past three to four years police have logged several calls to the home.

The house is located on the 1700 block of Altadena Street, not far from 12 Mile and Campbell-Hilton.

Neighbors tell us an explosion in the basement lead to the fire. Arson investigators from Oakland Country are leading the investigation.
