Ferndale police are crediting alert neighbors for helping officers nab a man who ran from police to avoid being arrested.

The incident happened Monday afternoon.

Police say an officer pulled over 40-year-old William Woods for speeding. Woods informed the officer he didn’t have a driver’s license on him because it had been suspended.

When the officer returned to his scout car to run Woods record, he took off running.

Officers searched the area, but were unable to find Woods.

Later that afternoon, a Ferndale resident called police after she spotted Woods in her yard.

Police returned to the area and resumed searching, when another neighbor told officers he spotted a Gold Impala circling the area.

An officer spotted the car a short time later in a parking lot. Woods was hiding in the vehicle.

The Detroit resident was taken into custody. Police say his license had been suspended more than 20 times.
