Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson in stable condition one day after car wreck

Suffered cuts and broken bones in crash

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) - Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is expected to remain hospitalized through the weekend as he  recovers from injuries from Friday's car accident.

Patterson is in stable condition at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac following surgery for broken bones that he sustained in the two vehicle accident late Friday afternoon.

"He is doing great," said Dr. Tressa Gardner, director of emergency services at McLaren Oakland.

Auburn Hills police say Patterson was a passenger in one of the cars involved in the crash. He was taken to McLaren Hospital following the accident where he was treated for a head gash and broken bones.

Police say the Chrysler 300 Patterson was riding in was traveling eastbound on Walton Blvd. when it collided with the Volkswagen Passat at the Opdyke Road intersection.

A preliminary investigation into the crash suggests the Passat driver was the one at fault, according to police.

There was a driver and passenger in both vehicles and police say all four people were transported to local hospitals with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

While Patterson is recovering, Chief Deputy County Executive Gerald Poisson will be handling his duties.
