ROCHESTER, Mich. (WXYZ) - While testing the emergency text message system, a frightening voicemail was accidentally issued from Oakland University.
A voicemail message was sent out stating that shots were fired on campus.
Many students on Facebook say they were alarmed and some say they actually left campus because of the message.
University officials say there was no emergency and they are working to make sure this does not happen again.
Oakland University acknowledged the mistake on Facebook with the following post:
During scheduled testing of Oakland University's emergency text message system, a voicemail announcing shots fired on campus was mistakenly issued. There is no emergency.
University officials are working to ensure the situation does not occur again. Any additional updates will be posted on the university homepage.
