WALLED LAKE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Police in Walled Lake are investigating a deadly shooting.
Apparently, the fight started between two neighbors around 9:30 Tuesday night.
"We don't know what happened," said the victim's uncle Phillip DeMontigny. "It was over a dog. That's all we know."
Walled Lake police would not elaborate on how the dispute started but also said the argument involved a dog or dogs.
The victim's family has identified the victim as 45-year-old Edwin Chrispell.
The police say the confrontation started in front of their homes, and ended with a 28-year-old Marine veteran shooting his 45-year-old neighbor to death.
According to Chrispell's family he was shot in front of his home in the 1100 block of Sigma.
The man was taken to the hospital, but did not survive.
"It's unbelievable that it would happen out in the middle of Walled Lake like this," said Chrispell's cousin who did not want to be identified.
Chrispell had been living in his house with his long-time girlfriend. Loved ones told 7 Action News they had a couple of dogs.
Police said the suspect had at least one dog.
"He will be missed and he was a good guy," said his cousin. "He always liked to go fishing and camping and canoeing. He was a good guy I just can't believe this could happen."
The suspect's name has not been released until his formal arraignment.
His attorney told 7 Action News that is likely to happen tomorrow.
He is being lodged in the Oakland County Jail.
