Putting a stop to dangerous distracted driving, that's the goal of the Auburn Hills Police department and Oakland County Sheriff's Office with "Operation Ghostrider".

Tuesday's focus on the newly reopened I-75 corridor resulted in more than 30 tickets being issued, a drunk driving arrest, a weapons offense and a few people driving while their license was suspended.

Marked cars with flashing lights and sirens  are easy to spot, but during Operation Ghostrider police are much more likely to see you, before you see them.

"We have 2 cars out there that are plain cars that are looking for drivers driving distracted, and then they are calling it out to the Auburn Hills Police and Oakland County Sheriffs cars to stop those drivers," explains Lt. Jill McDonnell with the Auburn Hills Police Department.

They are looking for drivers who are texting, reading, fishing around for something in the next seat, holding a phone, drinking or anything else that may distract a driver from the road.

They also enforced the law requiring drivers to move over when emergency vehicles are on the shoulder.

Operation Ghostrider may be done for the day, but it's not over. The team will choose another road on another day soon, hoping you'll keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.
