Small plane goes down off Williams Lake in Waterford; pilot in critical

Pilot was only one on board

WATERFORD, Mich. (WXYZ) - A pilot is in critical condition after his Piper Cub went down off of Williams Lake along Desmond Rd. near Sandy Beach.

The pilot, an unidentified 46-year-old man, was pulled from the plane by a group of young men who said the man had severe injuries to his neck and cuts on his legs. They say he was conscious but appeared to be in shock. He was the only one on board.

Waterford Police say it appears the 46-year-old was attempting to land on Williams Lake but may have struck some treetops, forcing him to crash land.

The plane went down in another pilot's backyard, just feet from several homes. Area residents tell Action News the pilot is well known around the lake and has two decades of flying experience.
