The Farmington Public Safety Department is seeking help in identifying a man wanted for questioning in an assault of a 32-year-old Farmington woman.

The incident occurred on Sept. 23 at 8:30 p.m.

The suspect approached the victim who was walking to her residence at the Jamestown apartment complex on Grand River Avenue east of Halsted Road.

He asked for a cigarette and then grabbed the victim and tried covering her mouth. She was able to fend him off, and he fled the area on foot towards Grand River.

She sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.

The suspect is described as a heavyset white man in his late 20s to early 30s. He had a beard, mustached and "scruffy" hair.

He was wearing baggy pants and a dark gray or black t-shirt with a white "Star Wars" logo on the front.

The suspect may have been driving a dark compact sedan similar to a Toyota Prius.

"This case is a top priority for the department," said Frank Demers, director of Farmington Public Safety. "Clearly, we have a deranged individual lurking in our community and we will deploy the full resources of the department and enlist assistance from our neighboring law enforcement partners to identify and arrest this suspect."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Commander Justin DuLong at 248-474-5500, ext. 2246.
