POLICE: Teen dies in Southfield shooting after attempted carjacking of off-duty officer

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., - Police say there was a deadly shooting in Southfield overnight after an attempted carjacking.

It happened around 2:00 a.m. at the Sutton Place Apartments near 9 Mile and Lahser when an off-duty police officer was getting out of his Dodge Charger.

Police say two suspects approached the officer, each armed with a handgun. The officer drew his gun and shot and killed a 17-year-old male.

The second suspect fled on foot but was caught by Southfield Police along with another suspect believed to be involved in the attempted carjacking. Both are 16-year-olds from Southfield.

Monday afternoon police said a fourth suspect, a 17-year-old from Southfield, had also been arrested.

Officers say 3 weapons have been recovered as part of the investigation. The deceased suspect was armed with a .38 caliber revolver. A second revolver and a black Air Soft handgun were also recovered.
