Police say I-96 shooting witnesses shown in surveillance video comes forward

(WXYZ) - Officials with the I-96 shootings task force say they are no longer searching for a man identified as a potential witness in the case as the man has come forward.

Police say the man came forward last night. He is being described as cooperative and, police say, he assisted with the investigation.

Officers are not saying who the man is or what sort of information he provided to investigators.

The task force is investigating at least 24 shootings that happened along the I-96 corridor between October 16 and October 27. Only one man is known to have been injured. He was hit in the buttocks while driving to Game 3 of the World Series from the west side of the state.

Police have released a composite sketch of a suspect in the case. He is described as a white male in his late twenties or early thirties. He has been described as clean-shaven, but police say it is possible he changed his appearance.

The suspect is believed to be familiar with the area where the shootings took place. Police say it is possible he has spent considerable time there.

A $102,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest or conviction. Anyone with information in the case should call either 1 (800) SPEAK-UP or (248) 624-6114.
