Shelter in place lifted at Ferndale Middle School and High School after police situation

FERNDALE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Ferndale Schools are no longer in a shelter in place after it was originally declared at Ferndale Middle School and Ferndale High School. Police were searching for a suspect in the area.

District officials tell 7 Action News that the buildings were locked and children remained inside.

According to police, three people broke into a home on Hazelhurst around 10 a.m. Two suspects were arrested and one ran away.

The final suspect fleeing prompted the shelter in place. Police caught the suspect on the Detroit side of 8 Mile, and the shelter in place was lifted.
