Tucker Cipriano pleads no contest in father's beating death

(WXYZ) - Sources close to the case confirm to 7 Action News that Tucker Cipriano has decided to plead no contest to felony murder in a hearing under way in Oakland County Circuit Court.

Tucker and friend Mitchell Young are both set for trial in the beating death of Tucker's dad, Bob Cipriano and critically beating his mother Rosemary and younger brother Salvatore in April of 2012 in their Farmington Hills home.

Both have confessed.

7 Action News Reporter Jim Kiertzner has been told by sources that family members have been talking with Tucker daily over the phone while Tucker remains held without bond inside the Oakland County Jail.

Last month, Rosemary Cipriano wrote an emotional letter to Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper asking her to plead both cases so that her family could avoid the pain of a trial and reliving their horror.  Rose also asked that if the trial goes on that she, her son Tanner and 9 year old daughter Isabella not be required to testify.

The prosecutor has said the trial will go on for public safety.  If Tucker pleads as expected, sources tell 7 Action News Reporter Jim Kiertzner that is because the family has asked him to in daily phone calls while Tucker remains in custody inside the Oakland County Jail where he is being held without bond.

His plea would put him in prison for life without parole. Tucker is only 20 years old. Jury selection for Mitchell Young is about half over and is set to continue this afternoon in court.

Young also faces First degree murder and attempted murder charges.

A trial in his case could go 2 to 3 weeks. Cipriano family members were placed under a gag order by Judge Shalina Kumar and can no longer speak about the case.

They could be called as witnesses in the Young trial.
