St. John Providence Park Hospital cuts ties with doctor under investigation for home abortions

(WXYZ) - An abortion doctor under investigation by local, state and federal officials has been kicked out of one hospital where he worked.

And there are questions about why this doctor was allowed inside a catholic hospital in the first place, after being cited by the state for performing home abortions.

Fourteen jars with what is believed to be human tissue inside, found in the trunk of the car of the doctor, started this case.

OB/GYN doctor Michael Roth has been lying low since police, the Attorney General and DEA raided his home and office Tuesday night.

Fourteen jars with what is believed to be human tissue - but not fetuses - were found in his trunk.

The working theory is he may have been performing abortions outside of a clinical setting.

He was cited by the state as incompetent and negligent for performing home abortions in 1998 and 1999.

He did work at St. John Providence Park Hospital - a catholic facility. Did they know the doctor's past? No one will comment.

We were given a statement that reads:

Michael Roth, MD is a private practice physician (not employed by the hospital) on leave of absence.

Our by-laws clearly require all physicians to adhere to the ethical religious directives, meaning no abortions in the hospital.

But Michigan law prohibits hospitals from denying medical staff privileges based on whether or not a physician provides termination of pregnancy services at other locations.

The DMC says they've checked 20 years of records and Dr. Michael Roth has not practiced there.

We have not heard back from others.

The state says he's licensed to practice in an office in Farmington Hills and another office on east 8 Mile in Eastpointe.

Dr. Michael Roth has not been charged with a crime.

If you worked with Dr. Michael Roth in Farmington Hills, Novi and Oakland County, West Bloomfield police want to hear from you as they continue their investigation.
