NOVI, Mich. (WXYZ) - Officials now say the trigger for the situation that cause a "general alert" at Thornton Creek Elementary School was a misdirected phone call.
The school is in Novi, but is part of the Northville School District.
The Northville Public School District issued the following email regarding the alert:
Dear Northville Public Schools parents, staff and community members,
For your information, the source of the anonymous call to Thornton Creek Elementary School has been located and confirmed by the parent of the individual who made a call. The call was not intended for Thornton Creek Elementary School at all – it was actually in reference to a meeting in another location.
Our regular, daily security plan is in place at Thornton Creek Elementary School and classes are continuing to proceed as usual.
As previously communicated, we take any suspicious activity seriously while weighing the ongoing impact of over-reacting to anonymous calls. As always, we work collaboratively with the police to evaluate any suspicious activity and act in the interest of the safety and well-being of our students.
We appreciate the responsiveness of the Novi Police together with the Thornton Creek staff, students and parents in responding to this situation and in keeping our children safe and focused on learning.
