Troy's city council votes in favor of building new transit center

TROY, Mich. (WXYZ) - The council voted 4-3 to approve a new bus and rail transit center that will be paid for with federal dollars. The city's mayor along with two other council members voted against the plan.

The council voted down using the money last month. But after the firm hired to draw up the plans lowered their price from $8.4 million to $6.2 million council member Wade Fleming changed his position.

Troy's controversial mayor, Janice Daniels, maintained her opposition to the new complex because in part because she does not believe in taking federal dollars while the country is running a deficit.

If Troy did not accept the cash from the feds it would have been given to another city.

The center is expected to be completed by October 2013.
