PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) - A 28-year-old woman who was raped and left for dead in a field, managed to go for help.
She was walking near the Baldwin Market Liquor Store in Pontiac when she was attacked Saturday around 8:00 p.m.
"She came inside fast, and she lay down on the floor," said Henry Toma.
Henry Toma was working at the store when the woman stumbled inside with her throat cut. "It was a deep cut," said Toma. "Around this area here. Around the neck area."
A short time before, the woman had encountered a man as she was walking down Baldwin Street. Police said the man threatened to kill her if she did not have sex with him. He then started to choke her and forced the woman into a vacant field across from the liquor store and raped her. The man stole her purse and cell phone and then tried to kill her by cutting her throat.
He is not sure why, but Toma said the woman did not want him to call police at first. "She told us don't call police, but I don't know why. But we called police," said Toma.
The corner has a lot of foot traffic, even at night, but no one claimed to have seen anything.
"It's busy, like 24-7," said Jacob Kumpura.
Jacob Kumpura and others living nearby say the area is known for drugs and gang activity. "Shootings, stabbings and stuff," said Kumpura.
Like Kumpura, the victim is a regular at the store and lives nearby.
"We know her a long time. At least more than 19 years she used to come here," said Toma.
7 Action News spoke with the victim's boyfriend as he was on the way home from the hospital visiting her Sunday night. He said she is doing better. Doctors said she will pull through.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department does not have any suspects at this time, and is asking if anyone knows anything, to contact them.
