Large plumes of smoke over Lake St. Clair are part of a controlled burn

(WXYZ) - The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office tells 7 Action News that large plumes of smoke rising from above Lake St. Clair are part of a controlled burn that is taking place today.

The burn is taking place on Dickinson Island and smoke can be seen from points throughout the region.

Callers to the 7 Action News newsroom have reported seeing the smoke from all parts of the Detroit metro area. We have confirmed that the fire is part of a controlled burn being executed by the Michigan DNR.
