Police search for suspect after dead infant found in Clay Township shallow grave

CLAY TOWNSHIP (WXYZ) - A dead newborn was found in a shallow grave in Clay Township Sunday evening.

Clay Township police Chief Don Drake said a resident was doing yard work when he discovered the remains about 6:30 p.m. in the 9300 block of Stone Road.

"This is obviously very disturbing to us," Drake said.

Few details have been released about the infant. Drake said the body has been sent to the medical examiners office.

The body was decomposed significantly and investigators don't know if it's a boy or girl, or even what race the child is.

An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.

Police ask that anyone with information about any recently expectant mothers who were pregnant, full-term, and then suddenly weren't, call the police department at (810) 794-9381 and ask for the chief or Lt. Michael Koach.
