A special education teacher has pleaded guilty to crossing the line in the classroom and physically disciplining kids.

The teacher is described by some as no nonsense and old school. Sadly, cops had to give her a lesson in breaking the law.

She has now retired in disgrace after 36 years with the Port Huron school district.

Fifty-nine-year-old Shirley Thoen taught at Thomas Edison Elementary.

Due to numerous complaints against her, deputies installed cameras to see what was going on.

Shirley was seen dropping and kicking a child in the head twice last October.

Deputies say surveillance cameras also caught her stepping on kids, splashing them with water and ordering one out of the bathroom with pants down.

The teacher recently pled guilty to assault & battery.

Sheriff Tim Donnellan says the abuse has no place in any classroom, especially where kids with special needs go to learn.

We left messages for the district and attorney for the teacher, no word back yet.

She'll remain free on bond till sentencing on January 14th.
