SALEM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) - Humane Society of Huron Valley rescues nine horses from a Salem Township boarding facility.
In the dark of night, several horses saw a light at the end of the tunnel when Huron Valley Animal Rescue along with State Police, came through the barn doors at Double Diamond Boarding in Salem Township. "We got a tip two or three days ago that prompted our investigation and when we first came out we found a dead horse in the pasture," said Animal Cruelty Supervisor Matt Schaecher.
Just under an hour later, nine horses that were under-nourished, covered in feces, and neglected were removed from the ranch.
More than 50 are kept there, owned by private citizens who pay monthly to have them boarded. "We are working with some of the owners to correct the situation," said Schaecher. The horses were taken to an undisclosed rescue facility, where they will remain while the prosecutor reviews the case and considers charges.
